Our cradled Art Panels utilize hardboard that is composed primarily of aspen trees. The hardboard manufacturing process yields a stable, relatively neutral substrate for oils or encaustic wax art. This panel starts out smooth on both sides but we lightly sand the front so it is ready for any additional preparation you would like to do before using it.

After assembly, the sides and edges are lightly sanded.

Each corner is attached with v-nails using a commercial joining machine.

We generally use knot free pine for the sides, but other materials are available. Other choices include baltic birch plywood and a variety of hardwoods.
